Middletown police are investigating two stabbings on the Middletown School District's property Thursday night. YNN's Meredith Zaritheny has more.
MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- "I'm just totally shocked," said Damaris Morales, Middletown Resident.
It happen around 8:45 Thursday night, that's when Middletown Police say a school staffer found one of the victims near the lower entrance by the bus loop.
"Apparently there was some type of altercation in or around the basketball game and the stabbing did happen on school grounds," said Joseph DeStefano, City of Middletown Mayor.
Authorities say the victims two former Middletown High Schools students were stabbed on Gardner Avenue near the school's baseball field.
"It's unconscionable you have people go to a basketball game and have this type of incident happen," said Mayor DeStefano.
Both victims were taken to Orange Regional Medical Center and treated for their injuries. The Middletown School District, meanwhile, sent a note home to parents stressing that the incident involved former students.
The note said, in part, "This incident was community related and did not have any connection with the schools or students currently enrolled at Middletown High School. We are currently collaborating with Middletown Police Department as they conduct a complete investigation and we will closely monitor this situation in an effort to prevent any related incidents regarding this matter," said Middletown High School.
"But there is a concern that this thing A went on at all B happened on school property," said Mayor DeStefano.
"I walk through here by myself its dark its pitch black every night here, so it's scary to know," said Morales.
Police do not have any suspects at this time and are asking anyone with information to contact Middletown Police.
