NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- A local Pop Warner cheerleading team has their eyes on a big prize.
The team from New Paltz, made up of girls ranging from 12 to 15 years old, is headed to compete in a national competition down in Orlando, Florida next week.
This team is the first in the Pop Warner Organization's eighteen-year history to make it to this level of competition.
The girls said this is something they have been wanting since they were younger and they are excited for the experience.
Their coaches acknowledged that this success took years of hard work and determination for the girls to finally reach their ultimate goal.
"They work very hard and the last two years they worked extremely hard,” Assistant Coach Karen Verney said. “And like I said, they got right to the end and didn't make it but this year they were determined, so we worked hard, we set goals in the beginning and we just followed through."
The team said this trip would not have been possible without the help they have received from the community.
The team will compete next Friday.
