NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- A local retirement community is getting into the gift giving season by spreading some joy to less fortunate families.

Residents of Woodland Pond in New Paltz have been holiday shopping, buying gifts to donate to two local mothers and seven children.

It is all part of the Giving Tree Program sponsored by Family of New Paltz. Residents hope to make the families' holiday a little brighter.

"Its toys, it's clothes, it's gift cards,” said Woodland Pond Resident Services Director, Sarah Hull. “Many residents have come up to use with cash in order to help purchase what the children would like and we set up a giving tree in our main dining room and the residents were invited to come pick up an ornament off the tree, which had the item the children were looking for and then they were able to go and purchase them."

The gifts were dropped off at Family of New Paltz Wednesday and will be delivered to the families in need at a holiday party this weekend.
