SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Dozens of people gathered in Schenectady Saturday to learn how to prepare and respond to natural or manmade disasters.

Governor Cuomo's Citizen Preparedness Corps held a training session at Union College.

The two-hour course focused on what you can do to better prepare yourself and recover from a natural disaster like recent flooding.

The goal of the course to is get people thinking about disasters before they happen.

CSM David Oliver with the New York National Guard said, "This is just a stepping stone for them hopefully that will send them to further training so that they can better recover and respond to emergencies that we've seen in the last few years."

Training courses are being held across the state by the New York National Guard and other agencies.

Everyone who participated received a free preparedness kit, including a first aid kit, emergency blanket, safety goggles and more. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
