COLONIE, N.Y. -- State police arrested a Colonie man they say was posing as an attorney when he had actually been disbarred.
According to police, Carl Holsberger misled a woman by claiming he was handling her family court case as her attorney. They say he provided paperwork saying she would receive a court ordered settlement for the case when no such action had taken place.
Police say he was prohibited from practicing law in 1996 after he was charged criminally for misleading clients and fabricating a court order, and he also faced similar charges in 2004. In this most recent case, he is charged with forgery, perjury, and practicing law without a license.
State police are asking anyone who may have been misled by Holsberger to give them a call.
