Our Giving Back series highlights special people in the state of New York who do volunteer work that truly serves the communities we live in.

This week, we meet a Western New York family who feels blessed by the generosity of others and is paying it forward.

"Well, I am from the Philippines and I've been here in the U.S. for about 17 years and I have three children and I don't have any family here. But, I have very good friends, very good friends," said Jennie Waldmiller.

Lori (Wendt) is like a sister to me and we have great bonding, we pray together and not only that, but they have been there for us, supporting my children, not only for financial, but anything emotional, they're there for us. "

"We're not just giving to them," Wendy said. "They give to us in their love. For anything we do for her, she'll send me over flowers that she cuts out of her garden."

"My kids and I are touching some peoples’ lives back home. We collect bottles, like cans and we do refund it and we collect that money and we save it up and send it up to these people up in the mountain, pastors and the church and so I thought it's not as much as what Rick and Lori have done for us, but at least we can give back," Waldmiller said.

If you know someone in your community who deserves recognition as a person who gives back, you can nominate them by submitting an e-mail to NYGivingBack@twcnews.com.
