ALBANY, N.Y. -- The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive throughout this Memorial Day weekend.
They started at 6:30 Saturday morning at the Blood Donation Center on Everett Road in Albany. The blood drive there runs from 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The Red Cross says blood donations often decline during the summer when schools are out of session and families are vacationing.
In June, July and August, on average, about two fewer donors give blood at each Red Cross blood drive than what's needed at hospitals.
