CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- RN's at Bellevue Woman's Center vote in favor of unionizing. The vote came down Tuesday evening.
A total of 92 registered nurses voted to join a union, while 18 voted against joining the New York State Nurses Association.
The New York State Nurses Association is the largest union for registered nurses in the state The move to unionize comes at a time when Ellis Medicine has put forth a new model for care at birth centers like Bellevue. Ellis runs Bellevue.
Under the new health care protocol, one nurse cares for both child and mother. The old model had one nurse for the mom and a different nurse for the baby. Some nurses say they have not been adequately trained to do both.
Ellis had previously released a statement about the unionizing move, saying, "We always value the opinion of our employees and are open to listening to any of their thoughts or concerns."
