ULSTER, N.Y. -- The Spring Lake Fire Department unveiled a 9/11 Memorial which was constructed from steel from the south Tower of the World Trade Center.
Upon receiving the steel, volunteer members of the Spring Lake Fire Department designed and constructed the memorial.
Chief of the Spring Lake Fire Department, John Cranston, says the memorial represents the brothers they lost and those who sacrificed their lives.
Chief of the Spring Lake Fire Department John Cranston said, "On 9/11, 343 firefighters didn't die, 343 of my brothers died. I honestly and truthfully feel that way. So now I have a piece of steel that is truly a monument to these 343 firefighters, as well as the EMS, and police agency members who gave their lives on that day."
In order to receive the piece of steel to create the monument, the department first had to apply and then be approved by the Port Authority of New York-New Jersey.
