SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The 22nd annual Hat Contest got out of the gate at the race course, celebrating the time-honored Victorian tradition at Saratoga. It's "hats off" to another year of fun and fashion in the Spa City. Each contestant had their own inspiration.
"A lot of these ladies, maybe, we'll adorn a hat and they're quite beautiful. I came last year just to appreciate the hats and I thought this year I'm gonna enter,” said one contestant.
"Definitely different, like I didn't want to do the regular race course hat. I wanted to do something completely out of the blue, something to do with the beach ‘cause it's one of my favorite places to be,” said contestant Eve Parham.
Lots of great hats were on display. Kathleen Christopher of Saratoga Springs, won the “Uniquely Saratoga” category, which awards the most creative hats. She received the grand prize of a $500 betting voucher. Michelle Hogan of Brunswick took home a $100 voucher, for winning the "Fashionably Saratoga" category. She was competing against 107 other contestants. And five-year-old Frank Potter won the "Kreative Kids" category.
