Pope John Paul remembered

  • Text size: + -

We had the chance to speak with a local man with ties to the Vatican City.

Pete Koryzno's cousin is Cardinal Edmund Shecka, the cardinal in charge of Vatican City. Koryzno actually met the pope when his cousin was named a cardinal. He says it was a humbling experience.

"When you shake his hand, you're in awe, because this is truly a simple man, a humble man who when you meet him in person has a captivating quality, and that was evident that people loved him, people across the world loved him, and rightfully so because I thought he was a true prince for the church," said Pete Koryzno, the Public Relations Director for SUNY Cortland.

Koryzno's cousin is actually eligible to receive votes for pope. He says he's already done a lot for the church and he is very proud.
